Vegetarian festival Yaowarat

Monday 26th was the final day of the Vegetarian festival, a time where all the Chinese Thai go vegetarian. But this doesn't mean tasty food goes away....it just means tasty vegetarian food is widely available! So, I took myself down to Yaowarat (BKK's Chinatown) to partake in the final day of eating delicious vegetarian food! All the stores have yellow flags on them to show they are vegetarain freindly during this period

The best part of vegetarian festival is enjoying coconut icecream in a coconut shell served with roasted peanuts!!

And the streets were full of these yellow banners too

That said, dinner wasn't exactly vegetarian....we went to T&K a famous seafood restaurant in Bangkok....this is the crazy menu at the place!!!

So, the seafood here is very good....very fresh and very tasty. First started with oysters which were so big I had to have 2 bites to finish it!

For drinks, had naam som chaeng....kind of like an orange juice, but a bit different. It's sweet but not too sweet...recommended!

For main course, had a squid soup kind of dish which came in this cool fish shaped dish and cooked at the table

The prawns were the biggest prawns I have ever seen and were just bbqd and very tasty like that!

And for dessert, I finally got to try birds nest soup....it's a soup made out of the saliva from a bird's nest.....its a delicacy in China....but thanks to Thai prices, you can get it affordably! Tastes nice....who would have thought bir'ds spit could taste good!

After dinner, walked down the main street at Yaowarat, which was so alive with people and stores. Was a really amazing atmosphere, so glad I made it to the vegetarian festival!

Before going home, I did stop to buy some fried bread with Thai custard....but the Thai custard is the vegetarian festival version....ie, without eggs (eggs also not allowed during this period), which I have to say I was sceptical about, coz how do you make good custard without eggs! But, it turned out to be good still! The place I bought it from once sold some bread and sakayaa (thai custard) to the royal family! So this place MUST be good!

Lastly, here's a shot of another temple which I again forget the name of!
